Awards and Recognition

Since our founding in 1999, REEP has built a reputation as a valuable community resource on energy and environmental issues. Both our efforts to educate the public about climate change and the measurable benefits our clients experience have been recognized locally and internationally. Significant achievements include:

  • Early success: Waterloo Region’s REEP achieved a higher per-capita participation rate than any other delivery agent for the first several years of the project.

  • Awards: REEP was nominated in 2000 and 2002 for the Environmental Sustainability Award, granted by the Kitchener Waterloo Chamber of Commerce

  • Distinguished affiliates: Two members of REEP’s present and former management teams have received honours in distinguished teaching from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. Professors Paul Parker and Ian Rowlands were both awarded the Excellence in Education Award for Promotion of Sustainable Practices in 2004. Paul Parker remains an active member of REEP’s board and Ian Rowlands was one of the original founders of REEP.

  • National recognition: REEP was profiled as an example of a local success story in the Office of Energy Efficiency’s own “State of Energy Efficiency in Canada” report in 2000 and on the OEE website.
  • Consultation: Our board of directors and staff have been consulted by municipal, provincial and national initiatives in Norway, England and Manitoba, all wanting to know more about our program and partnerships.

  • Valuable research: Our research has been presented at national and international conferences, and in numerous publications. An example is:“Effective Community Implementation of a National Program” published by the International Energy Agency in 2003.

  • Sharing our expertise: Recently REEP staff and management were invited by local MPP John Milloy to submit suggestions for encouraging energy efficiency and renewable energy alternatives to the provincial government. We received a response from John Milloy, indicating that he forwarded our recommendations to the former Ontario Energy Minister, Mr. Dwight Duncan.
